Most expensive domain names

I read an interesting article about domain names recently, and how the most expensive domain name Sex.com was sold for $13 million in April. Imagine that - £13 million for a domain name!

Business.com was the former most expensive domain name after being sold for £7.5 million in 1999, but was later de-throned by sex.com's sale for $12 million in 2006.

It's certainly food for thought. Rather than investing money in stocks or with a company like Rowan Dartington, you're better off buying up some Internet real estate - surely it's not too late.

This week, the domain Social.com will be up for sale at something called DOMAINfest, with an opening bid of $5 million, so we'll see if it's more popular than Sex.com. The owner Scott Carter originally registered the domain in January 1995, when he had to pay $100 a year to Network Solutions and deal with paperwork all through the mail.

The next big spend...

My new MacBook Pro is working beautifully, and I paid off my loan as soon as I got paid, so that all worked out for the best!

Now I'm looking at my next spend, a flash for my digital camera. I have a Canon SLR, so I've been looking at what is now my dream flashgun, the Canon Speedlite 580EX Mk II.

It's the latest and most up-to-date Canon flash, with approx 20% faster recycling time than the 580EX Mk1, auto conversion of flash coverage with most digital SLRs and AF-assist beam compatible with all AiAF points on every Canon EOS SLR.

If you're not a camera techie, just understand that all of that is very, very good! And it takes regular AA batteries, so I'll use some decent rechargeable batteries and if I run out of juice I can grab regular batteries last minute!

What a piece of equipment; it's fast, durable, reliable and must be mine!

So my laptop is fried...

Don't know what happened. I turned it on this morning and it's completely fried, it wouldn't turn on and then smoke started coming out of the underneath. It's not even that old, well, maybe in terms of PC laptops it is old, but seriously, are we supposed to buy new laptops every two years now?

I'm going to have to pay a small fortune to get my hard drive recovered, as well as replacing the laptop. Bankruptcy much!

How am I blogging right now you ask? I'm in the Apple Store. Here in Covent Garden actually:

I'm drooling over MacBook Pros and seeing if I can get one of those short term loans from Wonga.com until payday next week so I can get the laptop now and not be computer deprived for too much longer!

I've got my eye on a rather tasty 15 inch MacBook Pro... let's hope this works!

Visual Effects

Visual effects in films have come along way. Nowadays manipulating an image on the big screen is big money and the effects in some films are extraordinary.

To really see how far we have come if you compare the first Harry Potter film to the latest one the difference is staggering. The visual effects are a lot more realistic and believable.

The house elves, Dobby and Kreacher look real but the work needed to get them to that stage must be staggering and painstakingly tough.

I would love to be involved in a film and with the effects and have been looking at completing vfx tutorials to get me on my way!

Newcastle boss sacked

Fans of the toon army have been once again left at a loss by club chairman Mike Ashley after he sacked manager Chris Hughton today.
Hughton, who stepped up to the role after Newcastle United were relegated last season in under the eyes of Alan Shearer, stuck by the squad and led them back to the premiership. So far this season the squad have maintained a steady momentum, gravitating mid table throughout the league.
Hughton has reportedly been sacked after a recent bad spell, leaving Ashley asking for a more experienced manager. For the fans however, it will seem like just the most recent of betrayals from the cockney chairman.
